LAMINATE FLOORING

A multi-layer synthetic product designed to mimic the look of real wood, stone, or tile. It's become really popular in both homes and commercial spaces thanks to its affordability, durability, and ease of installation.

Each plank is made from several layers: a tough wear layer on top to resist scratches and stains, a high-res printed image layer that gives the floor its look, a strong fibreboard core for strength, and a backing layer for stability and moisture protection.
It's available in a wide range of colours and textures and usually clicks together without the need for glue or nails. Laminate is low maintenance - just sweep or mop - but it's not ideal for areas with standing water. Overall, it's a great choice for busy homes and anyone wanting a stylish finish without the cost of real wood.

ENGINEERED WOOD

A real wood product that’s built to be stronger and more versatile than solid wood. It’s made by bonding a thin layer of hardwood like oak or walnut to a base of plywood or HDF, which makes it more stable and less likely to warp.

The top layer usually ranges from 1 to 4mm thick and can often be sanded and refinished depending on its depth. Because of its layered design, it holds up better in rooms with fluctuating temperatures or humidity – like kitchens or basements.

You can install it in a number of ways: floating, glued, nailed, or screwed. It’s also more eco-friendly than solid wood, as it uses less hardwood overall. Engineered wood is ideal for anyone wanting that authentic wood look with fewer limitations.

Dorchester Solid Wood flooring

SOLID WOOD

Flooring is made from one single piece of natural hardwood from top to bottom. It’s known for its traditional beauty, long lifespan, and the fact it can be sanded and refinished multiple times over the years.

Each board is usually ¾ inch thick and comes in species like oak, maple, or cherry. It has a rich, natural grain and comes in different finishes, widths, and styles. It’s typically nailed, screwed or glued down and is best suited to dry areas – not recommended for bathrooms or basements.

What sets solid wood apart is its lifespan and the value it adds to a home. With the right care, it can last for decades, and even over a century. It’s an investment that pays off in both looks and durability.

Carpet flooring

CARPET

Carpet is a soft floor covering made from natural or synthetic fibres woven or tufted into a backing material. It's known for its warmth underfoot, sound absorption, and the comfort it brings to any room it's fitted in.

It comes in a wide range of pile types, from cut pile to loop pile and beyond, in materials like wool, nylon, or polyester. Colours, patterns, and textures vary hugely, making it one of the most versatile flooring options available. It's laid over a separate underlay and fitted wall to wall, making it a great choice for bedrooms, living rooms, and stairs.

What sets carpet apart is the feel it gives a space. It softens noise, retains warmth, and makes a room feel instantly more comfortable and homely. With the right underlay and regular care, a quality carpet can look and feel great for many years. It's a practical choice that never goes out of style.

LVT - Luxury Vinyl Tile

LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) is a durable, water-resistant floor covering made from multiple layers of vinyl, fused together to create planks or tiles that mimic the look of wood, stone, or ceramic. It's known for its toughness, easy maintenance, and the realistic finish it brings to any room it's fitted in. It comes in a wide range of styles, from rustic wood grains to sleek stone effects, with textures designed to match the look they replicate. Thicknesses and wear layers vary, making it a practical option for busy households and high-traffic areas. It can be laid as a floating floor or stuck down directly, making it a great choice for kitchens, hallways, and bathrooms.

With proper installation and basic care, a quality LVT floor can look great for many years. It's a practical choice that suits modern living.
